A Pawsome Success: MSU-IIT’s Pet Day Brings Joy to Furry Friends and Their Owners
On October 23, 2024, the MSU-IIT campus was buzzing with excitement—not just from the students, but from their four-legged companions as well! Pet Day, held in celebration of World Mental Health Day, was a smashing success. Organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services in collaboration with the City Veterinary Office, Department of Agriculture R10, Dr. E’s Clinic, FurPetSake, LezNeuter, and
Kharle Jane Marketing, this event brought together pet lovers from all corners of the community to celebrate, care for, and honor their furry friends.
A Day of Pet Care and Compassion
From the early hours of the morning, pet owners arrived with their dogs and cats in tow, eager to take advantage of the free pet services offered throughout the day. The venue was filled with a lively energy as more than 500 pets received care that would keep them healthy and happy for the long term.
1. Free Vaccines & Deworming
Over 500 pets, including dogs and cats of all ages, were given anti-rabies vaccinations and deworming treatments, ensuring they stayed protected from common diseases. The availability of these essential services for free was a huge draw for local pet owners, who were able to keep their pets healthy while connecting with other animal lovers.
2. Neuter Services for Male Pets
The event also offered 50 slots for neuter services, which were quickly filled by responsible pet owners looking to do their part in controlling the stray pet population. Following the required health checks, fasting, and other pre-procedure guidelines, the neuter services were carried out smoothly, thanks to the professional expertise of the veterinary teams.
3. Adoption Drive
A major highlight of the day was the Adoption Drive, which connected shelter animals with potential new families. Several dogs and cats found their “furever” homes during the event, bringing joy not only to the animals but to the families who welcomed them into their hearts.
Pet Day and Mental Health: The Perfect Pairing
One of the core messages of this event was to emphasize the connection between pets and mental health. Pets, whether they are dogs, cats, or other animals, offer companionship, love, and emotional support. Throughout the day, participants shared stories of how their pets had positively impacted their mental well-being, from helping reduce stress to offering comfort during challenging times.
This focus on mental health was what made Pet Day more than just a routine pet clinic—it was a celebration of the vital role pets play in human lives. Their ability to reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, and improve overall happiness was a recurring theme, and participants were reminded that by taking care of their pets, they were also taking care of their own emotional well-being.
A Fashionable Affair: PAWshionistas on Display
Beyond the health services, Pet Day was also a chance for pets to show off their unique styles. Many pet owners brought their dogs and cats dressed in adorable outfits, turning the event into a pet fashion parade. From fluffy tutus to superhero costumes, the creativity on display was truly remarkable. Pet owners proudly showcased their fur babies, making the event feel like a joyful celebration of the human-animal bond.
Looking Back on a Successful Event
As the day came to a close, it was clear that Pet Day at MSU-IIT was an overwhelming success. Hundreds of pets received the care they needed, and several shelter animals found new homes. More importantly, the event fostered a deeper sense of community among pet owners, veterinary professionals, and all those involved.
Participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers, including the City Veterinary Office, Department of Agriculture R10, Dr. E’s Clinic, FurPetSake, LezNeuter, and Kharle Jane Marketing, for making this event possible. Many left the event with their pets in tow, already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
Until Next Year!
Pet Day 2024 may be over, but the positive impact it had on both pets and their owners will be felt for a long time to come. As we look ahead, there’s excitement in the air for future events that will continue to celebrate the special bond between humans and their furry companions.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this day such a memorable and meaningful experience for all!
